Enclosure No. 3.
The Managing Director,
Canton-Kowloon Railway,
Chinese Section,
Canton.
Sir,
Manager's Office,
Kowloon,

ACCIDENT AT SIEN TSUN ON CHINESE SECTION,
on OCTOBER 27th, 1923.
In reply to your letter No.914/10/17 of the 4th
instant, I have the honour to inform you that this Section
cannot see its way clear to accept a smaller sum than that
represented by the original cost of the wagon less 3 years
depreciation viz. $6,684.60. I attach a statement showing
how the figure is arrived at.
The wagon still stands on our list of rolling
stock at its full value (less depreciation) and since your
Section has now disposed of it, it must be written off our
books this year. Were we not to receive its full value
for the credit of Miscellaneous Receipts, the difference
would have to appear as a debit against our earnings,
which is inequitable.
You do not state in your letter what figure you
accepted for the wagon fran Mun Hing Quarry Company, but
I presume that this amount will offset our figure to a
certain extent.
I have, &c.,
(Sd.) Robert Baker,
Manager & Chief Engineer.
